I thought I knew pain

I cut the grass and was sort of taking it easy before I jumped into the shower.

My back was a little sore, so I stood up, and then felt an all new kind of pain. I couldn't walk it off, and the pain got worse by a factor of about 1,000.

I can take a lot, but holy crap! - this took it to a new level. Intense pain in the my back, lower right and coming around the front. Tingling in my fingers. I thought I might pass out.

I had my appendix removed two years ago, so I knew it wasn't that.

After conferring with Nurse Kim (my sister - she doesn't know I call her that - she is longtime RN), we talked about it, and it is a kidney stone. She's a kidney stone veteran, as it turns out.

I'm currently drinking a lot of water and using heat packs. For those of you who have had kidney stones, I've felt your pain. And it wasn't nice.

Mike, I've never had one but my brother has. His symptoms were much like yours. Here is a photo of one. I cannot imagine pushing one of these through my urinary tract. Take it easy and drink lots of water.

I once watched a man rip a urinal off the wall because of one. I hope you get relief soon.

Hope you get well soon, Mike. It does eventually come off.

Once I had to carry (literally) a colleague from the office, when he got a stone - he could not move from the pain.

Hope you got through this okay. Never had one but I work with 2 people who have had the two types. Yes, one more reason to keep well hydrated!

Thanks, everyone. More or less back to normal. That picture looks like a naval mine, and it looks painful.

Funny thing is, I normally drink a lot of water. Roughly a quart during lunch.

I'm hoping this is the first and last one.

Kidney stones are painful, but I seem to recall a procedure you could have, where they blast the stones with high frequency sound waves, which breaks them up and makes them easier to pass. If you ever have another, and I hope you don't! you may want to look into this!
