Shooting the Mt. Equinox VSCCA Hillclimb

I had the pleasant opportunity to shoot the Vintage Sports Car Club of America hillclimb on Vermont's Mt. Equinox on Saturday, 9 August. The light was nearly perfect as I shot the cars going uphill on a sharp curve. The camera bodies were Minolta XE-7 and XD11, and the lens was a Minolta 200mm MD f.2.8. All images were shot on Kodak Ektar 100 color print film, developed and scanned at Dwayne's.

I don’t have an entry list for this event yet, so some of the descriptions below may be a bit sketchy.

There is always a Porsche. They are found in every class, and every group, and every event. It’s how it should be. Judging by the license plate, this is one of the 21,000 Porsche 356As built from 1955-1959.

Looking and sounding good, this big Maserati 3500GT Coupe from the early 1960s would look more at home on the Interstate.

This Riley Special was probably powered by an Offenhouser 4-cyl engine. Were they Sports Cars?

The uphill climb is a time trial with one car running at a time, but the leisurely return downhill looks more like a race.

Great vantage point, Tom. I think the Riley Special is what was referred to as a 3/4 Midget, since they were basically a scaled down Indy car. One of the guys who lived down the street from us when I was a youngster used to race those.
