Bear Creek Canyon, Arizona

My last three photo posts have featured scenes from Autumn back East—Virginia and Maryland. In fairness to my current state of residence, let me show you a bit of Arizona in the Fall.

Flowing out of the Huachuca Mountains about 12 miles west of my home, Bear Creek has, through the millennia, carved a sinuous channel through the volcanic rock of the valley. Water runs most of the year, and the pools etched in the lava are very colorful.

Bridge over Bear Creek, six miles from Montezuma’s Pass. The road runs between Coronado National Memorial and Nogales.

The creek flowing down into Bear Creek Canyon.

Water wins out over volcanic rock (given time).

Image
The creek widens into several pools.

Image
There was less algae at this time of year than I remember.

Rocks, leaves and algae.

Although Autumn colors made this visit special, Bear Creek Canyon is a delight at any time of year.

Please indulge me in a selfie, here in my own environment.

Nikon D700 with Nikon 24-85mm/3.5-4.5 G-series zoom
(except for photo #3, for which I used an elderly Vivitar 19mm/3.8)

Thanks for looking,
Dennis

Beautiful creek and environment, Dennis. The water seems excepcionally clear.

And those patterns eroded in the rocks... a miniature Grand Canyon.

That's a lovely spot to be hanging out, Dennis. You've captured it well.

I can almost feel the chill of that water flowing over my feet! Are you on the same continent as Buffalo, NY? Really? That looks like a great place to explore, Dennis. I like shots No2 and 3. Your Vivitar 19mm does really well.

PS: Who's the guy in the selfie?..........

And, what's he packing? Your shots make me want to be there, Dennis. Can I follow that road shown in number one? Thanks for this.
Best, James

Looks like a good place for pleasant walking, even if one can't take beautiful pictures like you have!
