Summer holidays

This year, we headed up the east coast of the North Island to Gisborne in the New Year. Gisborne is reputedly the first city to see the light of the New Year, and is a popular spot for welcoming in the New Year. Me, I can't be bothered with crowds (even kiwi "crowds"), so we timed it to arrive when the bulk of people had returned to their homes. I doubt that Gisborne every really gets crowded, since the roads in are all very twisty - it may not be that far in real terms, but there's precious little straight stuff. It's well known for its agricultural produce, as well as being a fantastic wine region. There are some beautiful sub-tropical gardens there too.

I took just the Sigma, as I really didn't envisage getting too much time to dedicate to snapping. The first night we were there, the Mrs and young one were relaxing in the hotel, so I snuck off for a wander down the water front. I was fortunate in my timing, as it coincided with a lovely east coast sunset, something I don't often get to see!
