We watched this butterfly emerge from it's chrysalis this morning.

Great picture! And what a wonderful experience it must be to see it happen...
I just discovered something weird that I hadn't noticed yet: every time I see a beautiful picture like yours above, my next mouse click is to hit the 'ebay' favourite in my browser.
Why does it trigger the gear buying reflex in me instead of 'go out and shoot' ?

Graham,
Superb shot. Did the background just happen, or did you use a card or sheet? The effect of isolating subject from background is terrific.

Benny, it's called "gear acquisition syndrome" and there is no cure, so I would just go with the flow!

Thanks Dennis. No, no background, just whatever was there, but I opened up to f5.6 to throw it OOF. I grabbed the small fold-up reflector that I carry in my bag and laid it flat underneath, as the butterfly was in total shade.

It is beauty-- personified. I raise my hat mighty high in praise.
