Lens fungus: An example

I'm doing some work on a postwar 35mm Biogon for the Zeiss Ikon Contax rangefinder.
Here's a before and after shot of fungus.
Pretty creepy, right?
While this one cleaned up nicely, other fungus had etched the surface of one of the other elements.

Once you have it back together, Mike, it might not be too bad. The lens I have on mine now (Opton-Tessar) could use a cleaning, but you wouldn't know it from the results.

Nothing exotic. Lens cleaner from Rite Aid. This works great for everything from fingerprints to fungus. For heavy grease, I have an industrial degreaser, which also is good for removing old lubrication from helicals, as well as cleaning the blades in leaf shutters and apertures.

That lens is well worth some effort.
