I want to replace my monitor

Post by melek »

When I moved, I did not bring my Sony Trinitron CRT monitor and opted for an LCD.

However, the colors are a bit off, and it took me quite a while to calibrate it correctly for black and white. Viewing angle is a bit restricted.

Any thoughts on which monitor will be a good choice for us photographers?

My budget is $500 or less, preferably less.

When I bought this laptop, I was kind of worried that I wouldn't like the screen, and I was correct. I ordered a 23" monitor to go with it (Dell), but have yet been able to hook it up, as I keep running into road blocks along the way. But I did get a look at one on display with a wall full of other monitors before I made the purchase, and it looked the best of any of them. Hopefully, it won't need a lot of adjustment when I do finally fire it up. I'll let you know how it all works out, Mike.

PF

ps: This screen on the laptop (Dell Inspiron 17R) is too bluish, and not very good resolution.

Mike,

Have a look for a Dell Ultra Sharp. You should be able to get a 24" one for that money.

I've had an NEC LCD for a number of years and like it a lot. (So many years that the model is irrelevant.). Regardless of the brand you might consider color managing it with something like Colormunki. It is fast, easy, and really helps with consistency.

These are good ideas.

I have to confess that I've cheaped out when it came to monitor calibration.

Now it's time to make a proper investment. Where did you buy Colormunki? I triedonce or twice to buy from a box store but never found anything.

At the end of the day, we just want our final print to match what we see on screen.

As I recall I got it from B & H. Their service has been excellent.
