Got locally a very clean Rolleicord V with 3.5 Xenar, S/N 1.555.xxx. I believe that the S/N makes it a late one, close to 1957.

I know this is far from rare or outstanding, but it is my first ever Rollei something and I wanted to share the news!

I will have to get used to the shutter loading and releasing with the same button. Viewfinder is quite bright and handling is very comfortable. The old Autocord will get a deserved break.

Pictures of the camera to follow later on.

EDIT: the S/N was wrong, I corrected it in a post below. Excuses.

The Thing in Itself, ready to receive the first roll.

I got the S/N wrong above, it is 1.563.902. According to the Rollei Club site, production run was October 1954 - March 1957, with 84,000 pieces made, and serials 1.500.000 - 1.583.999.

FWIW, if sequence was followed and production rythm was constant, my 'Cord would have been made around the first days of August 1956, more or less when the Suez crisis started.

The Rolleicord was a very popular camera down here. The principal of my grade school had one, he used it for the yearly picture of our school groups.
