These images were taken in 1966 in Cape Town docks. It was a very dull and rainy winters day. The camera was a Nikon F plain prism fitted with a Nikkor-H 50mm f2 lens. Film was Eastman motion picture stock ISO 80 processed in Accufine and rated at ISO 400. I scanned the negs on my Minolta Dimage Scan-Elite 5400 scanner. Please forgive the scratches and dust marks. All of the images can be seen here:

Fantastic!
The one with the two women and the man looks like some sort of advertising shot, the way that they're posed.
Nice scanning job too.
Cheers!

The couple on the left are still friends of ours. The girl on the right (note I say "girl") is my bride.BillyBob wrote:Fantastic!

What a nice series, Graham! 1966 doesn't seem as long ago as it is.

A great series, Graham, and a good story in B&W. I like these subjects so very much. Nice use of the light and environment.
The cafe in the docks looks incredible!

Julio, as I commented on my Flikr image, the Harbour Cafe was famous for it's seafood, especially Cape Lobster. We used to go there for supper with a group of friends at least once a month back in those days. When marriage and children came along, we couldn't afford it. Today the area has all been absorbed into the V&A waterfront.Julio1fer wrote:The cafe in the docks looks incredible!

Graham,
These are wonderfully composed. Further, they have an extraordinary atmospheric quality to them. Were it not for the date, some of the ships might have been headed to Casablanca to get Rick and Elsa.

Imagining that some of them were headed to Casablanca to get Rick and Elsa is what drew me to the docks!OpenWater wrote:Graham,

Fine photos! I'm struck by how you made the subjects, the light, the film, and the processing all work together to make an impressive series.
