Alex, nice work on that shutter. The fact that such an old shutter can still work correctly after more than 100 years. It says a lot about the design, precision and choice of materials that went into the manufacturing process.

I like the way they coded the shutter blades with the little holes. Good job on the clean out, Alex.

Hi,
Apologies if this is a newbie question. but...
How did you remove the circular cap from the cam/latch of the shutter lever (between pictures 5 and 6 above, my picture attached). I have tried a few things but don't want to force it. Speaking with a clock repair specialist, he though it might be braised.
With thanks,
AD

Welcome to the forum!
I would say it’s screwed.
All these rounded parts with two holes are usually screwed.
Have you tried one drop of acetone and try again?
It’s late already here but tomorrow I should be able to take a look to my shutter, still with me that lens.
PS: no question is newbie.

It’s a usual CCW thread.
It was a bit tight and the cocking lever was moving along so I had to put my thumb on it meanwhile I was using pliers to turn the rounded piece out.

Thanks Alex,
I assumed with the 2 holes on top it would unscrew but didn't want to force it with a lens wrench just in case.
Very grateful for your help,
Jim

Nice work on the shutter!
I like it when the shutter blades are screwed into the housing.

You are welcome, Jim.
Mike, yes, it’s always a pleasure not watching them jumping around

Good to have such a knowledgeable member like Alex here. Thanks for the informative pics, Alex. It's always nice to study the innards of shutters and cameras and realise that there is no way I could ever even start thinking about diving into that myself
